Sliders are designed to get many swings-and-misses as well a poor contact. The velocity can vary but the movement is similar to a cut-fastball, only more pronounced. A good slider moves downward and to a pitcher’s glove side.
The slider grip can vary, with one constant usually being that the index and middle fingers are incredibly close, if not touching.
The movement from a slider often comes from an athlete’s throwing with a more supinated grip (thumb pointing behind the body) or throwing it like a football.
